(Connecting Advent and Holiness)

There are three verses in Romans 6, taken together, and in context, that give us a concise summary of the whole chapter in regard to sanctification.  Romans 6:13,19, 22: “Present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God….For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification…and the outcome, eternal life.” (NASB).  Here sanctification is the result of “presenting” or “offering” (NIV) ourselves to God.  It further spells out the outcome being “eternal life”.  Jesus told us that the “Pure in heart shall see God” (Matthew 5:8).  The writer of Hebrews tells us that those who pursue sanctification “will see the Lord” (12:14).  One day the saints will see Jesus. “Oh Lord, I want to be in that number!”  Amen!
