Deliver Us
“Deliver us from the evil one” (Matthew 6:13b). The word translated “evil” is literally “the evil one”. This is true to form in the pattern of temptation. It was the “Serpent” who enticed Eve. It was Satan who was behind the mischief that befell Job. It was the Devil who tempted Jesus in the wilderness. He is the tempter, the father of lies, a murderer from the beginning, full of arrogance and pride, evil, malicious, anti-God and anti-Christ, plus more and wants to promote any of that or all of that in you.
