“He has sent me…to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” (Luke 4:18, Isaiah 61:1-3).
The “year of the Lord’s favor” is the announcement of Jubilee. In some way Jubilee is the capstone title for all the things Jesus came to do as described in Isaiah 61:1-3. This means that debts are canceled, forgiveness is freely given, prison doors are opened, captives are released, the poor have status and oppression has ended. Wow! Jubilee is an exciting time to be shared with all. If our debts are forgiven then we forgive others, not to do so is to sin against the Jubilee kingdom. Evangelism and societal justice is the outflow of Jubilee. It is to freely give as we have freely received. To not give is to not receive and miss Jubilee for yourself and others.
