Forbidden fruit is tasty.  To partake is to be shaped by it.  This is precisely why the commandments are given to us to avoid sin.  The commands are love’s warnings.  Tasting sin creates a savory experience.  It wants more.  It enslaves.  Its reshaping makes us think, “We are made for this.”  The new inclination seeks to redefine who we are.  It even tells us, “This is who you are.”  It is a lie.  Sin’s actions create an estrangement from the divine likeness, which is our true home and destiny.

Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:34-36 (NASB)
