We can be so self focused that we can enter a room and see and hear very little except ourselves.  We are so hungry to express our opinions, we cannot even hear the opinions of others that may be much better than ours.  We are not good listeners.  We have not progressed enough in our sanctification to rejoice with those who rejoice and celebrate another’s accomplishments.  We are not good team players because we want to score the most points.  In short, we need to look to the teachings and example of Jesus on self-emptying.

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.”  Philippians 2: 3-7
