Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would help the disciples remember His teachings (John 14:25-26).  The resurrected Jesus opened the minds of the apostles to the scriptures pertaining to Himself.  The Spirit enables the believing community to see the meaning of scripture.  It is never a matter of “private interpretation” (KJV).  The Bible is a Spirit inspired work that points to Jesus.  The Spirit helps the church to rightly remember Jesus Messiah.

“But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” 2 Peter 1:20-21 (NASB)
