“Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the LORD! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!  The Sovereign LORD is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights.” Habakkuk 3:17-19 (NLT)

Will we still rejoice in Him when the harvest fails and when the pantry is getting empty?  Will we still rejoice in Him when we are not sure when the next pay check will arrive?  Will we rejoice in Him when our health is under attack by some invisible pathogen?  Habakkuk gave a resounding “Yes!” even as his nation expected impending disaster.  Life is more than uncertain; it can shake us to the core.  It can test all of the things we believe about life; it can shake away our false views of God.  It keeps turning us to the beautiful God revealed in Christ; it is there that we find hope in which to rejoice.
