We have both a need to be loved and a need to love.  The former without the latter is unhealthy.  We are not meant to be mere consumers of love; we are meant to be channels through which love flows.  We are to freely transmit to others the love that we have freely received.  Giving love and not receiving love is also unhealthy.  It may reveal that we are not comfortable with being loved or that we have feelings of self-sufficiency.  We need to humble ourselves and receive the generous acts of love of others toward us.  Graciously receiving and generously giving is the key to happy families, churches and communities.

Jesus reminds us, “Freely you have received, freely give.” Matt 10:8
