The resurrection did not cure the disciples of hunger for political power, only the Holy Spirit did.  A risen Christ, they thought, could take control quickly.  This is reflected in “will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel”.  Never doubt they were still looking for power that went with chief seats.  Jesus turned them away from that pursuit to the pursuit of His Spirit when He said “power after”.  When they were filled with the Spirit they confronted those who had political power with the message of repentance.  They went out into the world to “turn the world upside down”.  When the church turns back to the Spirit it can happen again.  We will then be witnesses and advocates of something that can truly transform lives.

Jesus said, “You shall receive power after that the Holy Spirit has come upon you and be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8).
