The story of Hosea is about a man who lived out a parable in which he painfully participated.  The one to whom he was married would not be faithful to him.  This was what God was experiencing with unfaithful Israel.  Having been rejected by one you love helps to understand the pain of God when we do not return His love.  Our deepest pain may give us an insight into the hurt of God and bring us to a deeper relationship with Him.  On the cross God’s pain became visible.  In the cross our pain finds relief.

“When Israel was a youth I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son…I led them with cords of a man, with bonds of love, And I became to them as one who lifts the yoke from their jaws; And I bent down and fed them…So My people are bent on turning from Me.” Hosea 11:1, 4, 7 (NASB)
