Connecting Advent and Holiness
Our call to be holy is a call to move beyond what we were before our conversion to Christ. “As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:14–16 ESV). Repentance is to turn from our former manner of living. It is, among other things, a conversion from the passions of this present age. We are no longer ignorant about that. We have new knowledge of the One who has freed us to live lives of holiness. The advent of Jesus was to make possible this ancient command.
