“The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone…The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world (John 1:4, 9 NLT).”  The Word is the universal Light for everyone everywhere.  Some have seen it and do not know its Name.  Some have not seen it but can if they are shown. The Jesus who said, “I am the Light of the world” also said “You are the light of the world.”  He taught that our light is good deeds done only to glorify our Father.  Christians are the city on the hill whenever they can keep their self-centered baskets from hiding the light.

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.  No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:14-16 (NLT)
