Three times Elijah says, “I alone am left.”  (I Kings 18:22; 19:10,14).  He felt that way.  There was a little truth in it.  He had no other prophet to stand with him against the prophets of Baal.  On the other hand, he was physically tired and depressed from the battle.  He wanted to die.  He wanted to quit.  He was full of self-pity.  He needed food and rest.  We must understand that our “I alone” statements are never accurate.  They may even reflect self-pity or self-righteousness.  Get over it.  Remember, God is at work in lots of people and many places.  All have not yet bowed to Baal.  We yet have tasks to complete and ministries to fulfill.

“Then he came there to a cave and lodged there; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”  He said, “I have been very zealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.” 1 Kings 19:9-10 (NASB)
