Most every preacher has seen amens hurled across the isle to the other congregants whose sins have just been named.  An “Amen!” should be a personal affirmation of a particular truth or message.  Only the sincere can say it properly.   When calls for repentance go out for revival, we think of other people’s sins; if their sins would only be turned from, that would bring revival.  Never name a single sin of another until you have named seven of your own.  Prayers calling for “mercy on me” are more powerful than prayers meant to stoke our own self-righteous estimations of ourselves.  Sometimes our hurled amens are meant to proclaim our own righteousness; these can never heal us or bring revival.
