We are fond of saying that Jesus is the “only way” to the Father, and He is.  However, some have made it to mean that their salvation formulas of receiving Christ are the way.  Sometimes, we want to control the way to the Way.  Jesus as the Way was understood in a far deeper and more profound way by the apostles and the early church fathers. What they understood, we must also understand, is that Jesus of Nazareth revealed the eternally existent Cosmic Christ; He has always been with God, and He Himself is God. Christ was with God and was God.  He is before all things and by Him all things were made; without Christ nothing was made that is made. He is the Light of the world and is light for all humans. (John 1:1-4). He is the universal Messiah, more than Jewish, even before “Jewish” and before “Christian”. By His prevenient grace He is at work in every human being made in His image, and that is everyone; He is the Lord of all humans who ever lived, or shall live. This is why He descended to death and Hades and preached to all the dead; He came back with the keys to both (Revelation 1:18).  He is bigger than the cosmos; He is the Energy that makes everything work and hold together.  He was before Bethlehem, and Mary; yet by Mary he came into the world. He is way bigger than our best theologies can even imagine. In broken humility we need to fall before Him in awe and let the Way break our pride and arrogance, guiding us to the Father who is bigger than human words can express or human minds can even imagine.

“I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and among the lampstands was someone “like a son of man,” dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.” Revelation 1:12–18 (NIV)
