God has rejected power for conquering the world. His chosen method, the cross, is what all others deem as weakness. We want to argue with that, but remember, God knows way more about power than we do. He knows that power does not convert or change the heart; besides coercion is against His Nature. He conquers by self-giving love. Power can force, but it cannot change. Love can transform. The church throughout history has gone through times of rejecting God’s methods to the determent of the gospel itself, such as forced baptisms. Power corrupts the one who wields it. He “Emptied Himself of all but love” and by that emptying fills all things; in that emptying is the greatest power of all. Be like God.
Lord, we keep chasing after better and more successful methods. Teach us that self-emptying servanthood is Your method of reaching the world; it is the way that You shepherd souls. May we not sin against You by failing to follow Your example, Oh Lord Jesus. Amen!
