The last line of an ancient saying always puzzled me. 2 Timothy 2:11–13 (ESV) “The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself.” The final line seems to twist away from the three preceding lines. This is where the impact comes. He cannot be faithless for that would be contrary to Who He Is. He is the Faithful One. He CANNOT act contrary to the faithful nature of Himself, which is unrelenting, unconditional love. He CANNOT be capricious, unstable, vacillating, inconsistent, unloving, etc. So when I am faithless He remains Faithful, because that is Who He is. That is why He is the Stable Place to land and to live.
Lord Jesus, The Faithfulness of God, teach me to be the kind of faithful that You are to all those who pass through my life. Amen!
