The NT teaches us that salvation is past, present and future.  We have been saved, we are being saved and we shall be saved (Ephesians 2:5, 8; 1 Corinthians 1:18, 15:2; 2 Corinthians 2:15; Acts 15:11; Romans 5:9-10).  We are warned about neglecting the process.  We are cautioned against a deadly drift from it.  Ships that drift off course can crash on the rocks.  Planes must constantly adjust to keep the course in the face of wind changes.  We avoid the deadly danger of drifting by keeping focused on our saving Lord and by loving and serving Him with our whole being.

“Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.  For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?” Hebrews 2:1-3a (ESV)
