If you always get it right, then there in nothing from which you ever need to repent.  If you never make any mistakes, then there is nothing to confess.  There is then no need for you to pray, “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.”  Our failure to confess and repent is a sign of our entrenched self-righteousness.  The biggest thing we need to confess is our failure to love.  Sin, at its core, is a failure to love, the violation of the Great Commandment.  Look at the love of Jesus, look at your love and then confess the gap.

Lord Jesus, when we see the great love You have for us and all people, and how self-sacrificial Your life was, and how You loved and forgave Your enemies while they were mistreating and crucifying You, and in all of this “You opened not your mouth” in protest, we confess that we have a way to go, until we are fully formed in Your likeness.  Amen!
