The return of Christ has now become associated with speculation.  Speculative books and movies have produced lots of fear for people and lots of money for writers.  This is not the way it is supposed to be.  The hope of Christ’s return should motivate us toward purity.  The fact of becoming like Him should even now cause us to want to put out of our lives everything that is not like Him.  This hope should be moving us toward purity and holiness.

“Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.  Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.” 1 John 3:2-3 (NIV)
