The Jewish scriptures have their fulfillment in Christ.  Dr. William Greathouse taught us, “Christ is hidden in the OT and revealed in the NT”. The bible bears witness to Jesus (John 5:39-40).  Paul reminds us that those who come to Christ have a veil removed from their eyes when they read it.  Without Him in our hearts, it is like looking through frosted glass; it is like having a veil over the eyes.  Through Christ, when we come to the scriptures, we look with spiritual eyes beyond mere words to the One whose name is Word.  Without Christ there is no way that we can grasp the true message of the Bible. The goal of Bible reading is not just to behold Christ but that we would become like Him. Scholarship without Christlikeness as a pursuit detours the message into something else.

“So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord.  And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.” (2 Corinthians 3:18 NLT)
