In life, we have been wounded by our friends as well as our enemies. Sometimes wounds are intentional, and sometimes they are unintentional. Sometimes there is no one to really blame, except evil itself. We can decide that our wounds are not fatal. We do not have to let these hurts destroy us. Embracing our wounds is the first step toward healing. Remember, Jesus was “wounded in the house of his friends” Zech 13:6. Out of His wounds He healed us. As Henri Nouwen reminds us, we are called to be “wounded healers.”
