Simon the magician said, “Give me this power also, so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”  But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!  You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God (Acts 8:20-21 ESV).  Grace is free; it cannot be earned or purchased.  Unconditional love is a gift; when you try to buy love it turns out not to be love that you get.  The Holy Spirit is a gift to the followers of the Lamb.  Money can buy imitations, but the Spirit is free as air to those who will in-breathe Him.

“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live.” (Isaiah 55:1–3a ESV).
