If my time with God is only about me and my growth, it will always issue in non-growth. We are not with God to avoid the world. It is to be touched by the hand of God so we can be God’s hand to touch the world. A personal piety that retreats from the world ends up becoming immoral in its escapism because it avoids helping the hurting and influencing a fallen world around us for the Kingdom of God. The Lord touches us to serve.
“We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. We will know by this that we are of the truth, and will assure our heart before Him.” 1 John 3:16-19 (NASB)
