The people who do not need to be number one are the ones God can use to make a difference in the world. They have no need to get credit. They have no desire for self-focus. They do what they do out of sheer love and not for self-advancement and reward. They are not competing; they are simply meeting human need. They are not advancing their cause; they are advancing God’s cause. They do not want to be at the front of the line, nor do they crave the chief seats. They have first said, “Woe is me for I am undone” before they said, “Here am I, send me” (Isaiah 6:5, 8).
