Life is a race to be won.  It is a battle to be fought.  It is a journey to be completed.  It is a mixture of pain and joy, defeat and triumph.  It is a test to pass. It is a farm to be cultivated.  It is vapor that soon will pass.  It is a stewardship for which we will give an account.  Our earthly life is fragile; it is unpredictable.  We do not have the assurance of tomorrow.  We are to do all we can, while we can, to advance the work of God’s kingdom on this earth.  In this world, we are to humbly live in the will of God; we should remind ourselves that we have a limited time to do that.

“Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit’— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.’ As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.” (James 4:13–16 ESV)
