“Simon Peter replied, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God’” Matthew 16:16). This is the great confession. It was understood that the Messiah would be the Son of David, but when He came it was also revealed that Messiah was the Son of God. David’s son was David’s Lord (Psalm 110:1); He was before David, but descended from him. The Son then is the Cosmic Christ who has always been at the Father’s right hand. Our great confession comes not from flesh and blood’s mere human reasoning, but comes out of a deep Spirit-inspired knowing. The Father delights in revealing Messiah by His Spirit to our spirit.
“Simon Peter replied, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ And Jesus answered him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.’” Matthew 16:16-17
