The Church is a she and not a he. Yes, it is the body of Christ, but it is because “she” is married to Him, one flesh with Him. She walks with her Companion. She is one with her Lord, unified with her Mate, in solidarity with her King. The reason that there is not a female deity in the Judeo-Christian tradition is more than monotheism; it is that God is married to His people. He has chosen to be married to His people as her Husband. So let us, the bride, leave the love of the world and be in love with the Lover of our Soul.
“After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church–for we are members of his body. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This is a profound mystery–but I am talking about Christ and the church.” Ephesians 5:29-32 (NIV)
