The Great Commandment is really a call to get rid of idols. It instructs us to love God with our whole being without dividing that love with another god. “Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might” Deuteronomy 6:4-5 (NASB). The thing that always edges God out of the center is love for another god. The sin of idolatry is never far away from any of us. Idolatry is discoverable in what we love, value and serve.
