Feelings are not reliable. They change with the wind. They will drag us places we should not go. They will prompt us to act inappropriately. They will mock us for the minor and excuse us for the major. They will steer us off course and cause us to arrive at the wrong destination. We need something beyond feelings to guide us. We need words from our God. We need the guiding of the Spirit. We need the examples of saints who have gone before us. We need faithful friends to walk with us.
Father, our emotions do not always affirm us. Yet, we know that we are affirmed by your great love for us. Your promises are sure. You are for us and not against us. You are with us and we are not alone. Amen!
