The disciples were under orders to wait for the Spirit. Those who had been baptized with water were commanded to wait for the baptism of God’s Spirit. There is a waiting for the Spirit that we need, not just initially but in every moment of our lives. It is waiting for God’s power and purity, without which we cannot live a holy life, and without which we cannot complete the mission given to us by our Lord. Oh Lord, fill us anew with Yourself!
“And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now” Acts 1:4-5 (ESV).
