Paul saw a time when love would be warped. Folks would be “unloving” to others but “lovers of self”. They love money and what it will bring them. They are boastful, conceited, revilers and arrogant because of their kind of self-love. They love pleasure but they do not love God. Any godliness they profess is not genuine and does not bring glory to God. Their twisted love is not grateful to God and others. In addition to all of this, they are “irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless”. All these can be traced to twisted love. Failure to posses Christlike love sabotages all of life. Oh Lord, may our love be pure and genuine.
“But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these” 2 Timothy 3:1-5 (NASB).
