To say God is love implies a love object; this is one of the reasons we believe in the Trinity. The Trinity is a community of love. The Father loves the Son; the Son loves the Father. The Spirit, in love, exalts the Son; His love for the Father inspires our hearts to say “Abba Father”. We are invited into that Inner Circle to participate in this Trinitarian fellowship of love. We are loved by Father, Son and Spirit; to return that love is the true essence of worship. Oh, that we were so captivated by this love that it was the controlling influence in our thoughts, words and deeds. The way Father, Son and Spirit love in the Trinitarian community of love is the way we are to love each other in the communities in which we find ourselves.
“I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity…so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them” (John 17: 23, 26).
