The pharisees feared that their “holiness” would be contaminated by involvement with sinners/the unclean. The holiness of Jesus sought to be involved with sinners/the unclean, so that a loving/holy touch might be make them clean. He touched the leper (Matthew 8:2) and went to the home of a leper (Matthew 26:6); no pharisee would ever have done that. This is why Jesus said that He did not come to condemn but to rescue. Condemning others does not establish our righteousness nor holiness. Besides, condescending-condemning speeches push them away. We need to get over our pharisaical holiness and embrace the holiness of Jesus and start touching and healing the broken. Our broken world desperately needs that. Politics can never fix it. Seminars cannot. Holiness, with a tender touch, full embrace and unconditional love can.
