Jeremiah complains against the man who lives for himself without concern for others. He reminds him, “Did not your father…do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. He pled the cause of the afflicted and needy; then it was well. “Is not that what it means to know Me? declares the Lord” (Jeremiah 22:13-16). To know the Lord, we must move beyond our cloistered spirituality to the needy around us. We experience “knowing the Lord” in an intimate way when we help the hurting.
