It is possible to call yourself a Christian and not follow Jesus. It is possible that your piety is really your self-righteousness. It is possible to claim the new birth into the family of God with no resemblance to the DNA of the Father. It is still possible to pray, attend church and give to be “seen of men” (Mt 6:1-7). Even pride has a way of concealing itself behind a humble mask. But having said this, it is also possible to be born from above, live in humility and sincerity, be shaped in holiness, and do what you do for the glory of God and not yourself. By Grace, you can be genuine.
“They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as a finger. But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments. They love the place of honor at banquets and the chief seats in the synagogues, and respectful greetings in the market places, and being called Rabbi by men.” Matthew 23:4-7 (NASB)
