Theology is defined as “words about God”. Anytime we say anything about God we are being a theologian. Theological accuracy is called orthodoxy, though none of us gets it perfect. This is why we need the creeds to keep us on track. However, theology without passion for God is problematic. It is really impossible to be a good theologian without love for the God of Whom we speak. Real truth can set our hearts on fire. We need to be accurate in what we say about God and passionately in love with Him.
Father, we want to pursue knowledge of You that is driven with passionate love for You. Help us to worship You with our whole being while studying truth about You, lest we fall into the error of idolizing our own words.
