Jesus “learned obedience by the things that He suffered.” Never was He disobedient. He was schooled to obedience in suffering; so are we. He learned it having experienced it. Some things can only be learned by suffering and by no other way. Do not reject your schooling; it is the way of obedience. “He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him” (Hebrews 7:9). For Jesus, the way of obedience was the way of the cross and its suffering.
“In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered; and having been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.” Hebrews 5:7-9 (NRSV)
