We came into the world that was fallen, being pulled down toward sin. All of us have fallen by sinning. There is an upward pull going on simultaneous with the downward pull of sin; it is the pull of God, who is holy love. The pull of sin ends in death, and the pull of holy love ends in life. God gave His Son out of love, and out of love breaks sin’s pull. He sent His love to fill our hearts with His gravity-defying Spirit (Romans 5:5). Sin’s power is broken by the Spirit.
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” Romans 8:1-4 (ESV)
