The Bible was written over hundreds and hundreds of years, written to cultures that no longer exist.  When biblical texts seem to be at odds or variance with other texts, readers have different reactions.  Some abandon the Bible as a result.  Others latch on to their preferred texts while closing their ears to any others. Uninformed certainty and a closed mind are the worse things you can bring to the riches of this Book. Bible scholars help to open the language and culture of divergent texts, and in the process, discover rich truths.  What we discover in the process is that the grand message of the Bible is bigger than any of its texts; its treasures point to a greater Treasure.  The greatest Treasure to be found in the Bible, is Jesus Christ Himself, the Pearl of Great Price. “In Christ Himself are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2:2-3).  The Scriptures point us to Him; in mining this Treasure we find all treasure.

“You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is these that bear witness of Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me, that you may have life.” (John 5:39–40 NASB).
