Samuel subversively anointed David to be king while Saul was still king. Saul’s kingdom had lost its legitimacy. God’s new king was being readied. The Kingdom of God is like that. Christians, God’s anointed ones, are following their Messiah (Anointed One), King of the Kingdom of God, while the corrupt world order is still “ruling and reigning”. This is dangerous business. But we are a part of God’s work in the world that is ushering in the kingdom of the Son of David. Our loyalty is with Messiah’s Kingdom.
