Pentecost means the “fiftieth day” (from Passover). It was also called the Feast of Weeks (Week of Weeks, 7×7=49). Jesus was seen alive for 40 days. The disciples tarried in prayer for 10 days and the promised Holy Spirit descended on Pentecost Day. Pentecost was a celebration of the giving of the law. On Pentecost day the Spirit of the law, indwelling agape love, was written on the hearts of the believers.
“And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Romans 5:5 (NASB)
