The One who said, “I am the truth” (Jn 14:6), promised to give us the Spirit of Truth. Truth is more than a logical deduction. Truth is more than the opposite of a lie. Truth is Jesus revealing the nature of God. Truth is a mark of who God is; the Spirit bears witness. We need the Spirit of Truth to keep us on the truth track. Without the Spirit of Truth we can easily drift into false ideas and even a false spirituality.
“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak…he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” John 16:13, 15b (ESV)
