There is paradox between commands to self-control and the fruit of the Spirit being self-control. It is not either/or; it is both! The Spirit not only helps us deny ourselves but leads us to the points at which we need His help. The Spirit of Jesus living in us is better than Christ physically walking by us. He who was with the disciples is now in us, closer than breath. The Helper offers grace and strength aiding in self-control and disciplined living.
