The Spirit inspires faith and faithfulness. Faithfulness is faith over the long haul. It is trust on a marathon. Faithfulness keeps its vows and honors its covenants; it keeps its promises to other folks and to God. It does not shrink back from its baptismal pledge. “But my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him. But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.” (Hebrews 10:38–39 ESV). It runs the race with a view toward the finish line (Hebrews 12:1-5). You, by the Spirit, can be faithful unto death and inherit eternal life.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23a NASB).
