The tendency of kings and the ruling class is to get further and further away from the poor. This was the major note sounded by both major and minor prophets. The problem is, kings think that the world exists to serve them. When Jesus came, he turned that whole thing on its head when he said “I did not come to be served, but to serve” (Mark 10:45). A Servant King, think about that. That is the difference in the kingdoms of men and the Kingdom of God. This is the difference between Jesus and the world’s kings. Christlikeness looks like servants serving their Servant King in all they ways He served, including laying our lives down for those we serve. That’s what He did.
