God provided a rest for His people after the Exodus; His goal was to get them there.  They came right up to it and did not believe victory was possible; they failed to enter because of unbelief.  There is promised victory and rest for believers.  Expecting a life of repeated defeat ensures a life of repeated defeat.  This leaves you wandering in the wilderness.  Christ can give us victory over inward and outward sin; it is possible to live a life of victory in Jesus.  We cannot be passive and get there; we must be intentional about this rest of faith.  Entire consecration and faith is the path forward to this holy place of rest.

“Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, ‘Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years. Therefore I was provoked with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart; they have not known my ways.’ As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest.’ Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God”  (Hebrews 3:7–12 ESV).
