An essential part of our personal growth is to experience within the worshiping community the public reading of Scripture.  By this we develop a common historical memory within the story of the people of God.  Creation. Fall.  Flood.  Abraham.  Egypt.  Moses.  Exodus.  Wilderness.  Conquest.  Monarchy.  Exile.  Return.  Messiah: teaching, healing, serving, crucified, dying, rising and ascending.  This common memory is now our story and gives us identity and significance.  Read it!  Hear it!

Paul said to Pastor Timothy, “Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.” 1 Timothy 4:13 (NIV).
