Would you serve God if no one ever noticed, recognized or praised it?  Would you be happy to serve God in an unknown place, in some forgotten Nazareth?  Would you be happy to never be celebrated or acclaimed?  It is easy, even in the work of the Lord, to labor with a subtle pride.  Consider this.  The God revealed in Jesus is a humble God.  He comes into the world incognito.  He rides a donkey.  He washes feet.  He ministered to the hurting without boasting about His Messiahship; the Messiah did not have a messiah complex.  He appears as a stranger to two discouraged disciples.  “He emptied Himself of all but love” (Charles Wesley).  To follow Jesus is to follow the non-prideful God.
