The line from the song, “Whiter Than Snow” prays, “Help me to make a complete sacrifice.” Jesus put an end to offering animal sacrifices by the sacrifice of Himself. This, however, did not take sacrifice out of Christianity. The new sacrificial system is that we “Present our bodies a living sacrifice”. To follow the Lamb is also to follow in sacrifice. Christianity without sacrifice is anemic and weak with no power to transform us and our world.
“Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:1-2 (NASB)
